Each phone must have the proper Nextel service plan in order to use the Ranger Mobile Application. Specifically, the phone must be setup with “packet data and public IP.”
“Packet data” is the service that allows connections from the phone to the Internet. “Public IP” is the service that allows an Internet-based service, such as Ranger, to push data to the phone. Both service must be enabled for Ranger to function properly.
To determine the IP Address of a phone:
If the IP Address starts with “10.”, the phone has a Private IP. Call Nextel to update your service plan. Ask them for “packet data with public IP.”
If the IP begins with something else, you have a Public IP. The phone is configured for use with the Ranger Mobile Application.
A Master Reset forces a Nextel phone to refresh it's network settings. This is useful whenever Nextel has reconfigured your phone, particulary when you've switched from a Private IP (the default) to a Public IP (required by Ranger Mobile Application).
