Map User Guide
Main screen
The map opens up initially in the Overall View tab, shown below.
Tools and modes
The three tools in the right hand control area under the Zoom/Pan section are activated by simply clicking on them, not clicking and dragging. When a tool is activated, the Mode: indicator under the tools will indicate the currently activated mode.
- Track/Zoom mode: the user can click on a map, and drag a box over an area. If in the Overall View map, the Map Detail tab will be activated, and the selected area will be displayed in the Map Detail tab. This allows the user to quickly activate the Overall View tab and see a larger map view without a map refresh. The user can easily navigate between the Overall View and Map Detail tabs, and see two different maps without waiting for refreshes.
- Pan tool: the user can click and drag the map, and it will move the map and fill in the undisplayed area.
- Full extent tool: this will automatically zoom in or out to the initial default view of the area defined for the tow company.
Section controls
By default, only one section can be open at a time. Therefore, if no sections are pinned open, when one section is expanded, all others will close. However, the user can control which sections are pinned open.
- Expand section (+ button): drop down the section, and all non-pinned sections will close
- Collapse section (- button): roll up the section
- Pin open section (sideways pin button): click to force the section to stay open, even if any other section is expanded
- Unpin section (upright pin button): click to unpin the button, allowing it to close if any other section is expanded
In the image above, the Zoom/Pan section is pinned open, the Truck types section is expanded, and all other sections are collapsed.
Company-wide settings
Labels can be customized to save space, be more or less descriptive, etc. for the company. If the label is modified on any open map and saved, every map that is opened afterwards will use these new settings. The label templates use descriptors, listed below, to determine the position of a piece of data in the label. Every time the map is refreshed, the label is rebuilt according to truck data after that load.

Label templates can be specified for both assigned and unassigned trucks. It may be desirable, for a company with a large number of vehicles on the map, to customize the unassigned truck label to not show the status at all, saving map space.

Track/Zoom mode
In the image below, the selected mode is Track/Zoom, and the user has clicked on the map where the upper left hand corner of the red rectangle is, dragged to where the lower right hand corner is, and released the mouse button. You'll notice that while you are dragging in Internet Explorer, the rectange will indicate the area you are highlighting.
As shown in the image below, when the mouse button is released, if the active tab is Overall View, the Map Detail tab will be activated, and the map under the highlighted area will be displayed. If in any other tab, the map will be resized in place.
Job information
If you expand the job section, and hover the mouse over a job number, a popup will appear with job details.
Known issues

Tips/recommendations
- Resizing the browser window forces the map to be reloaded, which is a time-consuming operation. We recommend that you set the browser window to the desired size and simply use the Track/Zoom tool to zoom in and out of the map.
- The map appears to work better in Internet Explorer v7.
