This is an old revision of the document!
The map opens up initially in the Overall View tab, Shown Below
There are 4 tabs across the top of the map. When each tab is opened, corresponding tabs or accordians are expanded on the right side of the map Shown Below
As you will notice you can access many of the same info from different places.
This tab will show all the trucks with the status and direction the truck is going on a icon above each. When you click on a truck, a bubble will open(see below)
As you will see, the bubble shows the overview, driver, job, and GPS. (We will explain this info later)
This is a good tab to look, at a glance, where all of your trucks are and what their status is.
This tab will show the dispatcher the specific truck assigned to a specific job. When this tab is opened it will be blank until the dispatcher clicks on a specific job on the “map detail” menu. When this accordian is opened you will see all jobs. When you click on the job ID it will show the truck assigned and put a blue push pin on location (L) and a red push pin on destination (D). See Below
This tab will allow you to look up location/destination of specific jobs. It also will help you Geocode job location or destination that you don't have addresses for.
When you open this tab it will be blank. You will need to open “job” tab at the right under the “Address Lookup Tool”. From there you click on which job you want. When you click on it a blue Location (L)pin and a red Destination (D) push pin will appear. (If job doesn't have Geocodeable addresses it will be red instead of green in job accordian and it will show a red balloon on the map).
What is nice about this tab is you can move pins or balloons to get proper job address by left clicking on them and moving them to proper location. You can also type in different address in bubble. Once you change the address you click on “Update this job with this location” or “Cancel Relocation”.
Note: Not only will map update but any changes will also automatically update in Tracker.
This tab will allow the dispatcher to see the closest “available” and “available + Dropped” trucks to that particular job. See Below NOTE: This setting a company specific setting and can be changed by each company. Also each company can set up how many trucks they wish to see on this screen. (See the settings and trucks tab further down in the wiki for instructions on how to set this up)
The dispatcher can assign the call to the driver by left clicking on the truck and dragging it to the incident push pin. NOTE: the address MUST be Geocoded correctly (Green)for this option to work the way it was intended. If there is no actual Geocodable address in the incident then nothing will show up when the dispatcher clicks on that job.
By default, only one section can be open at a time. Therefore, if no sections are pinned open, when one section is expanded, all others will close. However, the user can control which sections are pinned open.
In the image above, the Zoom/Pan section is pinned open, the Truck types section is expanded, and all other sections are collapsed.
Labels can be customized to save space, be more or less descriptive, etc. for the company. If the label is modified on any open map and saved, every map that is opened afterwards will use these new settings. The label templates use descriptors, listed below, to determine the position of a piece of data in the label. Every time the map is refreshed, the label is rebuilt according to truck data after that load.
| Descriptor | Values |
|---|---|
| {directionIcon} | If the truck device is capable of returning a direction in degrees, this value is converted to one of eight values: N, S, W, E, NW, NE, SW, SE. This is then translated to one of eight icons which can be displayed in the label. |
| {truckNumber} | The truck number, as displayed in the truck list. |
| {truckStatus} | Available ASSIGNDRIVER ENROUTE ARRIVED HOOKED DROPPED |
| {truckShortStatus} | Blank (Available) AD (ASSIGNDRIVER) E (ENROUTE) A (ARRIVED) H (HOOKED) D (DROPPED) |
Label templates can be specified for both assigned and unassigned trucks. It may be desirable, for a company with a large number of vehicles on the map, to customize the unassigned truck label to not show the status at all, saving map space.
For truck 101, headed in direction 323 degrees (NW), not currently assigned to a job, and
truck 102, headed in direction 125 degrees (SE), assigned to and enroute to a job:
When you click on the truck a bubble will appear. See Below. The bubble will have 4 tabs (Overview, Driver, Job, & GPS).
The Overview folder will show truck #, driver name, status, speed, & type of truck. More importantly it will show the communication status of device and whether the truck is moving or stopped.
The Job folder will give an overview of the job. Job #, requested by, reason, priority, incident & desination. You can also find the incident and destination Note: The address must be Geocodable for this feature to work the way it was intended.
The GPS folder will show the dispatcher the connection status and GPS fix status. These items will have a green
If you expand the job section, and hover the mouse over a job number, a popup will appear with job details.

|---|---|
| When clicking on the Map link in the menu, and opening a new window, sometimes the map doesn't load | Close the new window or browser tab, and attempt to click the link again |
| The filters (trucks, truck types, jobs) aren't checked by default on load | On map load, drop down the truck type filters, and manually check them |
| On map reload (for browser resize, etc.) the current state of selected filters is not maintained. | After the map reloads, select the desired filters. |
| If the map is not used for 60 minutes, the session will timeout. Note that the map will continue to be updated every 15 seconds up until the 60 minute mark, but if no zooming/highlighting is performed, the session will timeout. | Try selecting the Track/Zoom tool and highlighting an area on the Overall View map. It should open the Map Detail tab and load the map for the area you highlighted. |
