5.5 - Enabling Picture Taking (internal Ranger use only) Ranger CommLink has added the functionality of picture taking on mobile devices with a camera. The picture storage functionality is accessible through CommLink and links photos taken to the Ranger Job number assigned to that job, which can be viewed from the Dispatch Screens. All customer devices will share one DropBox account because Ranger has built the functionality directly into CommLink V2.84 (or higher). IMPORTANT: Ranger representative should advise the customer that if they take a lot of photos, they may want to increase the size of their account with DropBox. They own the DropBox account and need to provide their user ID and password to Ranger for initial DropBox set up, but they are responsible for any fees from DropBox related to their account. Also advise the customer that photos could increase the data usage fees they pay. To minimize or avoid incremental data fees from pictures, Ranger’s device “default” for picture upload is to allow upload only when a device is in a Wi-Fi area. This can be changed by the driver on a job-by-job basis to immediately upload for urgent jobs that require Dispatch/Management access to photos before the driver in in Wi-Fi range again. Picture taking requires the following: Customer sets up a free or paid account on DropBox.com Cloud Storage. CommLink V2.84 (or higher) must be installed on each device. Ranger must have access to customer’s DropBox account login and password information to enable picture taking and complete this process. Ranger rep should use an Android device (preferably not a customer’s device) with CommLink V2.84 (or higher) installed, BUT DO NOT OPEN COMMLINK yet. https://www1.rangersst.com/mobile/android. Start the Set-up Process (Ranger internal) 1. From an Android device, download the DropBox application from the GooglePlay store and log-on to the customer’s account using the DropBox client. Once you confirm that the device connects to the customer’s DropBox account, uninstall DropBox from device (if you have used a customer device). 2. On Ranger host, login to the customer’s company. Go into Configuration → Device Setup → Device Options. Select “DropBox” as the Provider. Leave the DropBox Access Token Key and DropBox Access Token Secret fields blank (you will enter these in a later step). Set the Communication Mode field to Normal (or to WiFi preferred, if customer wants to only download photos when WiFi is available, unless over-ridden by driver).
3. On the Android device, open CommLink and login to the customer's company. 4. In CommLink, go into Settings → Cloud Setup, enter “edocssaP” without quotation marks and tap right arrow →. 5. On the device, the DropBox Authorization screen appears which displays the Ranger logo and a file folder labeled “Ranger SST.” Tap “Allow.” This sets up the shared folder on the customer’s DropBox account and associates it with the Ranger App. 6. On the device, the CommLink DropBox Key and Secret screen will appear. If the Status is “Success,” the App Key and App Secret fields will be filled in. Write down the codes or type them into a notepad file for future reference. If the Status is “Error,” go back to Step 6. After you obtain the Access Token Key and Access Token Secret successfully, you may continue to step 9.
7. Go back to the Customer’s Ranger Host, Configuration → Device Setup → Device Options. In the appropriate fields, type in the Access Token Key and Access Token Secret and triple check they have been entered accurately. Save the configuration change. 8. On the device, logout and exit CommLink. 9. DropBox is now configured. 10. Test to confirm DropBox is working. Open CommLink and login to the customer's company. Go to the Host application and dispatch a test call to that device. Take a couple pictures from the device after the call is dispatched. 11. IMPORTANT - If you set up DropBox using the customer's Android device, uninstall the DropBox client application. If the DropBox app is loaded onto the customer’s devices, the photos taken will not be linked to the Ranger SST jobs. Check the customer’s DropBox account from the internet and make sure there is a Ranger SST folder under the Apps menu. If the test worked properly, there will be folders listed by ranger job codes. Troubleshooting Troubleshooting I don't know the passcode. The Passcode is “edocssaP” (case-sensitive and without the quotes). On the DropBox website, there is no “/Apps/RangerSST” folder. That folder is created automatically during Step 7 when the Allow button is pressed. If you don't see the folder, you may not be logged into the correct DropBox account on the Android device. Try this: 1. Start the DropBox client application on Android. 2. Choose “Menu → Settings → Unlink Device From DropBox”. 3. When prompted “Are you sure?”, choose “Unlink”. The app will return to the main DropBox screen. 4. Choose “I'm already a DropBox user”. 5. Login using the customer's username and password. 6. Repeat the setup Procedure. On the DropBox website, the “/Apps/RangerSST” folder exists, but there are no subfolders underneath it. You probably mistyped the authentication parameters (Access Token Key and Access Token Secret) on the Ranger website. Triple check to make sure you copied the values correctly from the CommLink setup screen to the Ranger website. If the problem still occurs, repeat the Procedure again from scratch. I took a picture a couple minutes ago, but I don't see it on the DropBox website. The Android device may be having difficulty connecting to DropBox (e.g., wireless network down, DropBox outage, etc). CommLink retries every 3 minutes to upload photos. When connectivity is restored, the cached photos will automatically upload. Pictures are uploading to DropBox, but the picture files don't use Ranger naming conventions and aren't stored in the “/Apps/RangerSST” folder The pictures are being uploaded by the DropBox client application, not CommLink. Choose one of these solutions: • Delete the DropBox client application from device. Customer devices should not have the DropBox client application installed.
• If you are using your device with the DropBox application loaded, Turn off the “Camera Upload” feature in the Settings for the DropBox client application. This is the best solution if you're using your personal Android phone to setup DropBox.
