Find Me

Find Me is intended to help locate stranded motorists who are uncertain of their exact location. Find Me works by first sending a text message to the phone of the driver of the vehicle requesting towing or on-scene service. When the driver responds, the device forwards the GPS coordinates of the location back to dispatch. The process is not foolproof - for example the driver may not have a capable smart phone (text messaging, location services, Internet browsing) with which to respond. However, Find Me will take the ambiguity out of many situations where the driver is does not know where he/she is physically located.

To Use Find Me

  1. On the Job Details screen in Dispatch (for a saved job or new job), enter the customer's name and phone number, and “Save” (Ctrl S)
  2. Click the Find Me button
  3. Enter the customer's carrier - e.g., Verizon and click “Save”
  4. A text message will be sent to the customer's cell phone
  5. The customer will then need to click on the link in the text message - the link will be something like: http://map1.rangersst.com/fm.aspx?1755857051
  6. The link will take the customer to a web site that provides directions on next steps and outlines what to expect:
  • If prompted, please grant permission to provide your location information (e.g., “Share Location”)
  • Confirm that location services are enabled on the device
  • Please wait 20 to 30 seconds while your mobile device tries to discern your current location (hold your device toward the southern sky)
  • If successful, the device will notify you of success (“Address saved and company notified”)
  • If you get a message that the “Returned location is invalid”, reposition your mobile device and click on the “Retrieve location” button to retry
  • If your Lat/long coordinates are then found, Click on “Submit”
  • Note: the most accurate results will be obtained by using only the Stand-Alone GPS option (i.e., Satellites) in your device Location Settings
  1. When the customer responds, Ranger will “reverse geo-code” the GPS coordinates and populate the Incident address with the inferred address of the stranded motorist (Note: the process will take 1 to 2 minutes)
  2. Validate the address with the motorist to the best of their knowledge (review location in Advanced Options » Lookup On Map)
  3. If the Find Me process is repeated, Ranger will use the last result generated
  4. If the Find Me process does not successfully generate an address, work with the customer to ascertain the location as best you can using the map
