5.9 - Kiosk Mode App Installation The Administrator can elect to add software to each device that places a device in kiosk mode. Kiosk mode enables access only to specified applications and requires a password to make changes. For this reason, Ranger suggests that password access be limited to a few “key” personnel and be written down and stored in a secure location. The password is required to install software updates or make changes to applications accessible in Kiosk mode. 1. From the Android device, go to the Google Play store, search on “SureLock” for the application called “SureLock Kiosk Lockdown” by 42Gears Mobility Systems. Click on the green/black SureLock icon and then the blue “Download and Install” button. Agree to the terms.
2. If you see the window below, with an option checkbox that says “Allow automatic updating,” uncheck the box. (If you do not see it you should be okay.)
3. To confirm installation without automatic updates, make sure the box is unchecked if you see it. If you don’t see it, you have not enabled automatic updates when you downloaded the SureLock App.
Go ahead and tap on the gray Open button from the screen above. If you see the screen below, it means you have previously had a licensed SureLock App on the device and the license code for Ranger SST is importing. If this happens, you can skip ahead to Step 7.
Tap the Home key on your Android device. If you see the screen below, click the blue “Ok, Got It!” button.
Tap the checkbox “use by default for this action” and then tap the SureLock icon.
You will see the screen below with a message “Thank you for trying SureLock” and notify you that you are using a trial version. We will activate the full version in the next step! Click OK.
4. See the screen below with “Trial Version” in red below the SureLock logo. Tap the screen 5 times within a 3-second period to get to the Password screen. Enter the default unlock password of four zeros “0000” then click OK.
5. From the Admin Screen, scroll down to the “About SureLock” icon and tap it.
6. Tap on “Activate”, enter the Ranger activation code [374225] and tap “Activate” and see an “Activation successful!!” screen and tap “OK.” 7. Tap the green checkmark “Done,” which takes you to the main Admin Settings screen. Tap “Allowed Applications.”
8. From the “Allowed Applications” screen shown below, tap the grey “Add App” button in the bottom left.
9. You will then see of Available Apps. Scroll through and select the checkbox (see below) for the applications you want drivers to access.
10. An example list of Allowed Apps reflecting current Ranger features is shown below. (Please note that applications must be installed on device before they will appear as an Available Application on the previous screen!) a. Android System (required) b. Barcode Scanner c. 11. Tap “Done” and “Home.” You will see the icons of available apps with a SureLock icon in the center of the screen. Tap “Ranger SST” to login to CommLink.
12. Ranger suggests there be an assigned person at a customer’s company who is responsible for coordinating software updates and changes to allowed applications on all the devices. This person should change the password from the default zeros to one only the Administrator knows.
